Preparing for kindergarten, developing social skills, and taking pride in being Jewish are high priorities at Solon Jewish Preschool, but they are not the only concerns.

“We create a community,” insists Moira Levinsohn, director of the preschool. “It starts with our Bagels & Babies program for mothers and their babies up to age 10 months and it extends all the way to pre-kindergarten and young fives classes. We encourage family programs, so moms, dads, and grandparents visit the school with their children and really feel at home. Many people have met here and become great friends.”

The prestigious Step Up To Quality program recognizes Solon Jewish Preschool as one of Ohio’s top early childhood education programs because of its low staff-to-child ratio (never more than one staff member to seven children in the older classes), nurturing and licensed teachers, hands-on art and music activities, reading and math readiness, and science and computer instruction. Teachers encourage youngsters to explore singing, dancing, cooking, storytelling, and imaginative play.

“On Friday, every child goes home with his or her own baked challah for Shabbat,” Moira points out.

New this upcoming school year is a program for children who are turning two by January. Depending on the child’s age and the family’s schedule, parents may currently select among programs that run from an hour once a week (with an adult caregiver) to several hours five times a week. Extended care is available daily. Weather permitting, children enjoy playing on a state-of-the-art playground, which is fenced in and fitted with rubber flooring for maximum safety.

Among the school’s “specials” are focused instruction in Dalcroze, music, gymnastics, and Hebrew. Optional enrichment classes include Future Scientists, tae kwon do, Twist and Shout, Bit of Drama, and yoga.

“This is a quality early childhood program where children learn so much and enjoy coming here,” says Moira. “It’s a home away from home—for them and their families.”

Solon Jewish Preschool is located at Chabad Jewish Center of Solon, 5570 Harper Road, in Solon. The phone number is 440-248-7766. For more information on the Preschool, Extended Day, Mom & Me, and Summer Camp programs, visit the website at www.SolonJewishPreschool.com.
